  • AGQ to deliver Core and Interface training to students UK-wide

September 24, 2024
  • As part of our commitment to improving graduate training in algebra, geometry and quantum fields UK-wide, we are partnering with SMSTC — the Scottish Mathematical Sciences Training Centre — to deliver our Core and Interface coursework to students UK-wide at no cost to the student or their home institution.  See our Training page for the list of course offerings, which begin 7 October 2024.

SMSTC typically charges a small fee to students (or their home institution) to attend SMSTC courses remotely; these fees help to keep SMSTC running. AGQ has agreed to pay this fee on behalf of ten students UK-wide for each Core and Interface course, to remove barriers to UK-wide enrolment in our coursework.

This is a pilot programme for Semester 1 of the 24/25 Academic Year.

Fine print:  Students register through SMSTC’s website.  Students enrolled in SMSTC courses are receiving access to the weekly Zoom lectures, the course webpage, and the assignments. Note though that SMSTC is not a credit-awarding body and therefore does not provide assessment. Instead, SMSTC facilitates assessment with a lecturer at the student’s home institution (for instance a lecturer overseeing a reading or correspondence course). Students receive a letter of completion from SMSTC which records their participation and the outcome of their assessment.  In order for students to receive credit towards their degree programme, their home institution must administer a reading or correspondence course.

To apply: If you would like to be considered for one of these ten scholarships, please contact us through our contact form, telling us about your academic background (including current level of study and your university) and which courses you would be keen to participate in. Please note these courses are only available to current university students and staff.
